4 Tips for Will Aid success

1. Spread the word

Display Will Aid posters and leaflets in your office. Include a leaflet when you're mailing clients. Find other places to display materials - churches, post offices, estate agents, Independent Financial Advisors. We'll be happy to supply them with leaflets or posters too.

Use our Press Release to let the local newspapers and radio stations know you're running Will Aid. Ask if they have any features about Will Aid planned - you could be part of them.

Download the Will Aid logo and include Will Aid in your advertising.

2. Be prepared!

Prospective Will Makers will be directed to your firm by the Will Aid website and hotline from August onwards and will request an appointment for November by phone or by email.

Brief your staff as soon as you can to deal with these enquiries. Appointments do not have to be restricted to November, so please arrange them to suit you.

If you receive more enquiries than you can handle, let us know immediately. We can steer enquirers to an alternative firm.

3. Do your bit

Suggested minimum Will Aid donations are £75 for a single Will, £110 for a pair of 'mirror' Wills or £40 for a codicil. If this differs widely from your usual charges, you are welcome to indicate your usual rate to clients and suggest that they donate a similar amount.

If your client requires more than a basic Will or needs other advice, you are free to charge separately for the additional work involved - but make sure you have agreed the fees with the client before accepting the instruction.

Donations can be made by cheque (payable to Will Aid) or online by debit/credit card. Clients who have donated online should show you a copy of their payment acknowledgement.

Please use your Will Aid receipt book. Keep the blue copy for your records, give your clients the yellow copy and forward the white copy to Will Aid with the donation. If your client has donated online, please indicate this on the receipt.

When accepting donations, please make your clients aware of the importance of Gift Aid. This increases the value of a £75 donation by a huge £21.

Will Aid donations are not subject to VAT.

4. Make a real difference

Many Will makers don't realise the value of leaving a gift to charity in their Will.

Please ask your clients to consider a charitable legacy and let us know if they've done so on the receipt.  This information will be kept confidential and the Will maker will not be contacted by the charity if they prefer not to be.

If your client pays in cash, please send us a company cheque to the same value. If you require a receipt, please provide your email address or fax number.

Please send Will Aid each donation as soon as you can - there's no need to wait until they have all been received. At the end of the campaign, we will send you a certificate confirming how much your firm has raised.
